At the request of the US Army Air Corps, the first pilot sunglasses were designed by Ray Ban in 1936.

Ray Ban is a subsidiary of Bausch & Lomb. They were intended to offer protection against sun glare, which could cause discomfort at altitude.

The second most important supplier of eyewear to the US Army Air Corps was the American Optical Company, which already produced several types of eyewear, including the M-43 Type C1 survival vest glasses.

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

Very early military-style frame from the 40s or 50s.

Lenses are bottle-green, type G15 style, with beige front and nose protection.

The temples are flexible, in satin-finish steel, so you can wear a helmet during military transmissions or ride a motorcycle with a helmet.

The lens size corresponds to a large size, i.e. 62mm.

Stamped on the top bridge : raymbaund

Flexible nickel-plated steel frame for use with earphones.

Used set in original condition.

The olds lenses are in good condition, with a few minor surface marks that will not affect vision.

This is a very old frame, the look is quite singular, an ultra-vintage look for these vintage frames that many movie stars or great singers have worn.

They differ very slightly from the Ray-Ban style in that they are much more curved on the lower part.

They feature a side head to tighten the frame.

Sold as is and as described.
